STUDENT VIDEOS
From class clips, music lab, studio and even TV! Musicians as diverse as pre-schooler multi-instrumentalists, to Classical, Jazz or Rock performers, music theorists, arrangers, composers, film-scorers, several attempting a world speed vocal record, and several more securing international record contracts. Some of the most interesting are little kids remembering 60 digit numbers using music, or others singing/learning Pi to 52 digits while dancing, and of course the super-perfect-pitchers. Maroubra Music School is a fully equipped recording studio where students have literally secured international record contracts, but the majority is kids being creative and having fun making music they are proud of. Students storyboarded, edited, acted, danced, played and sang in these videos. These creative projects are not meant to be glossy, professional music videos, they are the work of imaginative and talented young people when you let them loose on instruments and hi-tech equipment in an environment of inspiration and fun.
We noticed from years of facilitating school performances, that when young musicians recorded themselves (as opposed to performing on stage), there was zero anxiety, and maximum positive feedback. The same wasn't true for school performances where the confidant kids were fine, but the less sure children were sometimes so anxious they gave up music - from being a good student. When you record in a safe environment where you can relax and make mistakes without judgement, the student makes actual artistic decisions - they challenge themselves to try again and again to get it right - without prompting. They then produce a product they listen to many times and it energises their enthusiasm to learn - the opposite of quitting.
Our System has been used in over 50 NSW schools by thousands of music students. From Jazz, Latin, Classical, Rock, tunes, etudes, scales, chords, reading, and on multiple instruments, the system closely mimics the way a young mind visualises music to simplify the cognitive task so music learning is faster and more fun.
